Provenance · Since 1978

One workshop, one family, one signature cut — from mine to certificate under a single roof.

In 1978, master cutter Hari Bhattarai opened a small lapidary in Patan, Kathmandu Valley. Forty-six years later, the same workshop still receives rough Nepalese aquamarine, plans each stone by hand, cuts it in-house, and signs every Certificate of Authenticity itself.

We are the only vertically integrated gemstone house in Nepal. Our three GIA Graduate Gemologists — the only such team in the country — examine each rough, mark the orientation, and supervise the cut. There are no brokers, no auction middlemen, no offshore certifiers. The 4 to 6 intermediaries typical of the trade never touch your stone. The savings — averaging 58% below comparable Western retail — pass directly to you.

From the Current Inventory

Four stones, hand-selected from the 1,200 we keep in active rotation.

Each stone below was cut, graded, and signed in our Patan workshop this season. Color, clarity, and carat are presented as the lapidary recorded them — no retouching, no filters. Tap any stone to view its full provenance map and Certificate of Authenticity.

The Atelier Pipeline

From mine to certificate, under one roof in Patan.

Four stages, one workshop. The vertical chain that lets us price a 5-carat aquamarine at roughly forty percent of what the same stone carries in a New York showcase — without ever parting with its provenance.

    Mine Selection

Rough aquamarine sourced directly from the high-altitude pegmatite workings we have visited personally for four decades. No brokers, no trading floors — the journey from vein to bench begins with a handshake, not an invoice.

    In-House Lapidary Cutting

Our three GIA Graduate Gemologists plan every facet. The recovery and re-cutting workshop in Patan processes more than eight hundred rough stones per month — a throughput that gives us both yield and a trained eye for the rough worth keeping.

    GIA-Aligned Certification

Each finished stone is graded against GIA-aligned methodology by our in-house team — the only such arrangement operating in Nepal. Carat, dimensions, clarity characteristics, and origin commentary are recorded before the stone leaves the bench.

    Signed Certificate & Provenance Map

Every stone over one carat ships with a hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity and a provenance map tracing its path from mine region to workshop bench. The paper trail is part of the purchase — as collectible as the stone itself.

In Their Words

The jewelers who source from Patan.

More than three hundred and eighty independent ateliers across twenty-seven countries have placed Aquamarine Nepal on their preferred-vendor lists since 2009. A few of them, in their own words.

Three things matter to my counter — color, paperwork, and the price my client will tolerate. Aquamarine Nepal hits all three without the posturing of the big wholesale shows. The Certificate of Authenticity ships inside the parcel, not as an afterthought.

I order matched pairs for our bridal collections. The lapidary team plans the layout before they touch the rough, and the consistency across a four-stone suite is closer to what I expect from a Swiss watch movement than from an aquamarine house.

The wholesale counter at the workshop in Patan is the only place I have walked into, selected a stone over lunch, and had it back in my Toronto studio before the weekend. Concierge email replies arrived within hours.
